i went snowboarding

I mentioned on friday I might go snowboarding...well, I did. It was a lot of fun. There was only like 50 people on the mountain since it was in the afternoon and there was about 6 inches of fresh snow too. It snowed the whole time I was there and I got in some great rides. My behind never hit the snow the whole day. I just rode straight to the lift, got off the life and sat on a bench the strap up and cruised down the mountain. Snowboarding is an amazing thing.
I love the feeling of being on your edge, cutting back and forth down the mountain. It's probably the best riding feeling I have experienced that is close to surfing. Since I can't hit the salt water much anymore, snowboard is my new love when it comes to board sports. I can't wait to start teaching the kids next year. It will give even more reason to go ride more often.
The picture is from Cataloochees website. Some photographer takes pics all day and uploads them on their site to buy. I know it says not to copy, but I thought it was cool. I have never seen a picture of myself snowboarding.

A dog for my Mom

My Mom's birthday was this past weekend. My Dad wanted to get my mom a dog for her birthday. Laurel found a really nice one not far from Franklin. It's one of those little dog's that sound like a cuss word when you say it. I can't spell, so I won't even try it. Anyways, we gave it to my Mom on Friday and she loves it.

It doesn't have a name yet, but I am sure she will come up with something soon. Grace took care of the dog on Friday afternoon till we surprised Mom with it. Here's a picture of Grace with the un-named dog.

The tempature got pretty cold last night and we got some snow. The high elevations recieved several inches, including the mounatin I ride at. I think head up there this afternoon and ride. The snow is getting thiner and thiner, but the mountain closes this Sunday. I better get one last ride in this season.

Garrett and his stuffed animal

On Monday night I had a very funny exchange with my 3 year old son Garrett. He woke up from bed that night and wanted me to lay down with him to out him back to sleep. I was very tired and laid him down and put a big stuffed animal in the bed with him. I told him to go to bed with the stuffed animal and that I was going back to bed. He looked up with his big blue eyes and simply said, "But I want someone who talks." It was really funny and cute. You gotta love the kid.

View from my office

It has been raining all day today. Normally I have an amazing view of the mountains from my office, but today it looks kindof yucky outside. I thought I would let you be glooming with me today! :)

PS...the house looking thing is a bird feeder I had the facilities guys put up for me. I am trying to steal the birds from one of the other offices in my building. Nothing like a little friendly competition!

Listen to Grace Sing

I recorded Grace singing last night. It was really great in person. This doesn't do it much justice, but it is cute. I recorded it on my cell so the quality isn't great. Enjoy. It's a song from the Disney made for TV movie, "High School Musical".

Griffin is a slapper

My youngest son Griffin loves to slap. The kid is the sweetest thing you have ever seen. He loves to play and eat, but when he gets mad he slaps at you. I was holding him last night to take him home from his grandparents and he just whacked me in the face.
Needless to say I was not to happy, but it is sorta funny. I just hope he doesn't whack any other little kids one day. It's funny how kids go through little stages in life where they do something like slapping, saying a certain word or doing something weird. I guess you could say Griffin is "slap happy".

Grace and Laurel on the "Today Show"

Grace and Laurel we on national tv this morning. Grace and Laurel and some friends went to New York for Grace's birthday. They got up really early this morning and went to hang out outside the Today Show. I TiVo the show so i could make sure I saw them. Laurel called at 7:30 and they had just been on the air waving at the camera.

Then at about 8:10 she called and Katie Couric and Matt Lauer interviewed Grace! She answered a couple questions about her birthday and turing 6 years old. It was really great. A few people even called the house and said they saw her on TV.

My Friend Adam is moving

My friend Adam is moving to Iowa. He lives just south of me in Georgia. I would never live in Georgia for anything. I can't stand the place. The only thing great about Georiga is Atlanta Braves and turner field. Anyways, Adam is moving. Adam and I have been friends now for about 4 years. He and I worked for the same radio station company as GM's of our markets.
If you put the 2 of us side by side in comparison we are not the most alike in the world, but we get along great. Adam is a yankee and he has an accent. I am a surf bum, flat head from Florida. We have always has great conversations about lots of stuff; from work to politics to religion. The one thing I will always appreciate about Adam is his honesty. I don't know many people that can be as up front and brutally honest about stuff more then him. He is a great father to his family and wife and is a greta friend. I know Adam and I will keep in touch for a long time. I also know he will be greatly successful in his new venture in radio in the great state of Iowa. Good luck A-train.

Livin It Skateboard Demo Coming to Franklin

Do you know the actor Stephen Balwin?

He is one of the Baldwin brothers. You know...the actors on TV and in movies. Anyways, Stephen became a Christian about 3 or so ago. He help start this amazing ministry called Livin It. They go to cities and do skateboard and bmx demos. All the guys are Christians and are the top pros on the scene. When they do a demo they usually have 1,000's come out. Many are kids. it an amazing thing. The ride and crank out some tunes and then they will share some of the faith with the people there. Many people come to know God through the events.

The Livin Demo team will be coming to Franklin, NC in about 2 months. They will have a full skate park setup and a 10 foot halg pipe as well. The half pipe was an extra add on in the last week or so. It's going to an amazing day. I pray we will see many kids and adults come to an understanding of God's unconditional love and how Christ's sacrifice on the cross forgives anyone. I have more info on the event in the coming weeks. The demo is in May.

Garrett feels better

I knew Garrett was feeling better this weekend when he became destructive and rowdy like he normally is. I'm just kidding. The kid just has the energy of a monkey who just drank 15 Mountain Dews. He just loves to be active. He is a wonderful child. I love to watch his energy for stuff. This is a pick I took of him a few weeks ago. It sorta sums up how funny and wild he is.

White men CAN jump!

One of my favorite sports movies is White Men Can't Jump. I am not huge on the story line, but the basketball scenes are great. I was talking to my buddy Matt a few months ago and was driving by the outdoor beach court the movie was shot at while he was talking to me on his cell.
Anyways, to my real point....check out this video link of this white kid dunking a basketball. It pretty sweet. The kid has hops!
BRING THE HOUSE DOWN WHITE BOY!
It's a small download and it's free.

Madness in March

Normally this time of year any madness I would be refering to it college basketball related. The NCAA tourney is just a week away and college basketball is all over the place. I love it. But, the madness I have been experiencing this past weekend has nothing to do with bball. I wrote earlier about kids being sick really sucking. Well, kids being sick for over a week at a time is terrible. Me and the wife are wor out. This puking virus that has been going around all over the place it just plain aweful. Please pray for us and for some health in our house. We are seeing signs that the kids are felling better, but it's been a slow process.
Hopefully any more madness at my house from here on out will only be basketball related.

Mountain Surfer...I love it

My friend Adam who lives in northeast Georgia put a link to my blog on his blog site. He calls my site Mountain Surfer. I used the web address wavehog.blogger.com because I really couldn't find another address that would incorporate my name. Wavehog is a nickname my buddies gave me in high school. Growing up near the coast and spenind a great majority of my time surfing the east coast, I love the ocean. I specifically love to surf. I started when I was about 10 and surfer avidly for about 10 years till I moved to the mountains. In high school when we would go surf, I loved to sit way outside the break. I always wanted to wait for the bigger sets. So, when the larger sets come through i was always on it. I seems to just get the bigger, cleaner waves mostly because I was patient. My friends could never get it, so they just said i "hogged" all the good waves and named me wavehog. It's a stupid story, but even 10 years after high school my old friends still call me wavhog sometimes.
Now I spend my riding time snowboarding. I guess I could be Mountain Hog someday?!
